Types of Geothermal Energy Solutions

Types and Solutions for Closed-Loop Geothermal Systems in Small- and Large-Scale Projects

Depending on the project’s specific energy needs, location, and, most importantly, geological features, Voraggo offers a variety of engineering solutions designed to meet your requirements comprehensively and deliver practical, effective results.

Globally, shallow geothermal energy provides several widely used and proven options to fulfill the energy demands of your project. Drawing on many years of experience and international practice, Voraggo has gone beyond conventional methods by developing and refining a range of innovative geothermal systems and drilling techniques, many of which are patent pending. These include VoraggoLoop™, HeatXcel™, ThermAITrack™, and GeoCyclone™, which can be applied to both open- and closed-loop geothermal systems, such as:

Single U-Bend Vertical/Deviated Loop
Double U-Bend Vertical/Deviated Loop
Coaxial Vertical/Deviated Loop
VoraggoLoop™ Vertical/Deviated
Standing Column Well

Each of these options, depending on the project’s specific needs (whether for heating, cooling, or hot water) can be integrated and configured to work with various highly efficient types of Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs). With the Voraggo solutions you can save 50–70% on energy bills and expect your underground loops lasting for generations without any maintenance.

Implementation Workflow

Essential Steps to Implement Your Geothermal Project

O1.

Conduct a Site Assessment

Evaluate the geothermal potential of your site, including underground temperature, soil and rocks composition, and any naturally occurring geothermal resources as well as the reservoir parameters and geothermal settings. A thorough assessment ensures your system will be designed for maximum efficiency, suitability and long -erm cost saving.

O2.

Define Project Goals and Budget

Clarify your heating or heating and cooling goals and establish a realistic budget using the Voraggo experts. This helps determine the most appropriate geothermal solution for your needs and resources.

Select the Right Geothermal System

Choose the geothermal technology that best meets your needs, whether it’s a Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHPs - Closed Loop) or Direct-Use System (Open Loop), along with the appropriate well configuration (U-Tube, Coaxial or Production). The choice should align with your site characteristics, budget, and project goals. Prepare a system design, permitting, and installation. Voraggo expertise ensures compliance with local regulations, optimal system performance and your cost efficiency.

O4.

Drilling &
Installation

Preparation and drilling: Defining and preparation the site for drilling. When the drilling method and site are selected, a drilling rig is used to bore the well(s). For vertical or deviated wells, the drilling process typically involves drilling through soil and rock layers to reach the geothermal reservoir and get optimal temperature in the system.
Installation: After drilling, the appropriate loop or pipe system is installed based on the selected geothermal technology to circulate a fluid (typically water or an antifreeze solution) through the geothermal well, where it absorbs heat from the surounding rocks/geothermal reservoir. Once installation is complete, the geothermal well undergoes testing to assess efficiency, flow rate, and heat transfer capacity. The loop system is then connected to the heat pump to facilitate and increase energy transfer.

O3.

System Design &
Calculations

O5.

Completion

Conducting ongoing engineering and administrative tasks: Charging the system with heat transfer fluid - depending of the (Closed-Loop System or Open-Loop System); System Testing and Calibration; Post-Installation Inspection; Finalizing Documentation and Permits; Establishing a Maintenance Plan; Energy Performance Verification;
Handing over to the Client.

Final Testing & System Commissioning
